Day Twelve of the ProBlogger 31 Day Challenge
Develop an Editorial Calendar for Your Blog
This really is a great logical next step from yesterday’s challenge to create ten post ideas!
Once you have a good list of post ideas it will become much easier to design a posting schedule. I prefer ‘posting schedule’ to ‘editorial calendar’ because that’s the way that I think of the process and since this is my blog that’s the terminology that I’m going to use!
I have already been thinking of the idea of having a weekly theme though I have not yet decided what kind of theme I will do. I want to look into more ideas before I decide. Even though I know that I can always change my plan if I find that it’s not working. I don’t want to choose something that is so narrow that I might have a difficult time blogging about the topic each week. But I also want it to be fun too, something that my readers will look forward to and that I will as well.
I already have the general goal of posting two to three times a week, though not limiting myself if/when I work my way up to posting more frequently. (As I discussed in my post on The Great Debate: Blog Post Frequency.) Though I have to say that this blog challenge is definitely getting me used to posting more – daily is really a stretch for me especially on top of keeping my normal goal of 2-3 regular (non-blog challenge posts).
Another thing that I’d like to schedule with my posting schedule is a schedule for reading and commenting on other blogs and also participating in forums. I’m really going to have to figure out a time frame and schedule all of the things that I want to do in such a way that I can accomplish it all. This is definitely about personal development!
Also, for what it’s worth I’m typing this post two days before the group even gets to it so I’m already putting this into practice!

Hi Stacy,
I’m also just posting once a week. I think it allows me the time to participate in this challenge and keeping up with social media and also allows me to create more ideas for posts.
I like some of the suggestions for Day 12, I may incorporate a few. I also want to increase my posts to maybe 2-3 a week. We’ll see.
For the record, I like to write down at least 3 draft posts ahead of time. That way I’m not pressured to think of a topic at the last minute. I always feel better when there’s a post ready for publish and I like to stay a few steps ahead.
Happy Day 12!

Scheduling is hard! Right now, I have 3 days that are always set as to what I’m going to do. 2 that I have can decide to do something different or to not post at all, and weekends are PR stuff….except for this week b/c I have something different going on. LOL

Peter, I think that a schedule is a must for three times a week! Aside from this blogging challenge I don’t think that I’ve posted three in a week yet – and that’s with no schedule. I’m still working on writing posts ahead of time as I get inspired, that way I have posts waiting for me.
WIlma, I think that having at least three draft posts ready is a great plan! Quality is definitely better than quantity!
Shell, it sounds like you have a good schedule going already! Great job!
