  • Hey Stacy,

This is the second post I’ve read just today about stress and what we should do to avoid it.

Last week I had one of the worst weeks in a very long time. Blog issues, mostly with my hosting service. Long long story but everyone I spoke to told me something different so we were going in so many different directions trying to resolve the issue and I had to rely on others to do this. I’m no techie person so I did have some really horrible moments there but at the same time I did take a step back and just breath. I knew it was out of my control and I was doing everything in my power to get this issue resolved. There wasn’t anything else I could do so I quit freaking out about it although I was dealing with this for seven days straight.

It’s how we chose to react is where we can go so terribly wrong. I wish I’d had more self control years ago when it comes to this. Lessons learned right!

    Thanks Stacy, great advice.

  • Hi Stacy,

I agree with everything you said here. I can even tell you that I know someone who had so much stress going on she used to get colds like you wouldn’t believe until someone told her that it wasn’t normal to get sick that often and that something must have been the trigger. That was a wake up call for her.

Too much stress is definitely not healthy.

    Hi Sylviane,
I believe it! I used to get sick a lot because of my negative thinking and tendency to get stressed out. In fact, what I was about ten I had a twelve year old tell me that if I didn’t stop worrying, I’d have a heart attack by the time I was twenty!

  • Stress is like the screen saver that comes on in your mind when you’re idle.

The question is not why are you stressing it is why are you idle.

You are idle because YOU DON’T KNOW WHAT TO DO.

    or

YOU DON’T WANT TO DO WHAT YOU KNOW HAVE TO DO

The first step is to figure out which one is the cause, there different solutions for each…

    Hi Darnell,

A screensaver is a great analogy! Stressing out can be an automatic response much like the screensaver showing up after inactivity!

  • Stress can be the cause of so many problems both mentally and physically. Once we give into it, it does spiral and then everything starts to crumble.

I have had many clients that had headaches, neck aches and back aches due to stress. Once we worked on how to deal with their stress the aches went away.

Some people have stress before there is anything that goes wrong. They can expect a situation to happen. I used to be one of those a long long time ago!

There are many ways to deal with stress. Exercise, is great! And there is so much more…Donna

  • Stress is inevitable, my body lets me know as soon as my immune system begins to get low. Over the years I have learned to deal with it and the best I have is number one thing to do when I’m stressed is to relax. I do what I can to prevent stress: staying organized, staying on top of my work, doing extra work, etc. But we all have those days when everything seems to be shook upside down and what I do is breathe, calm myself and remember that I cant be (as the author perfectly put it) “shooting out rays of stress to everyone in the vicinity.”

  • Hi Stacy
I think we all have stress in our lives at some point, it is how we deal with it, I suffer from high blood pressure and although I have it controlled by medication I have to be careful not to let myself get stressed.
I have learned that when something happens to stop before reacting, take a look at the situation and see what plan of action I can take to resolve the situation.
It is not always easy but we have to try and stay calm if we can :)
Thanks for sharing, and hope you have a great day.

  • Great post, Stacy! You are so right about the problems that too much stress can cause. However, as I remember reading in a book on pastoral care, we have to avoid burnout, but if we don’t do enough to face challenges, we also face the risk of what they called rust-out. Isn’t it amazing how many times Aristotle’s golden mean turned out to be accurate ;-)

  • Stacy I love this post and so agree with everything you have said here.
Your point on how we deal with it is the critical factor.

I used to stress about many things I do not now. As I believe in law of attraction stressing and thinking negatively only attracts more of the same.

I was speaking to a family member today who has worked herself into a real state over another family member. It is nothing she can control and I was telling her she needed to let it go. She could not see how she could do that. Not a good place to be.

Thanks Stacy for some excellent advice.

  • Stress is definitely one of the most common things we deal with and your reaction to it is vital. To cope with stress, I try to do something that is calming and will take my mind off things. I used to just take walks, but you can’t always do that for all situations. So now, I blow bubbles. It’s a happy little activity and the blowing action allows me to calm down. If you blow too hard, the bubble won’t form, so I’m forced to breathe at a calmer rate. ;)

  • Finally, a post where I can definitely relate to. Honestly, I’m not a big fan of stress but we are living in reality, therefore we cannot avoid stressful situations in our life. One good strategy that I’ve found that’s really effective is to surround yourself with positive people and to just relax. After doing this, I find that I’m more capable of handling the stressor in a much bettter way.

I really hate the feeling that I am always in a hurry I can’t concentrate of what I am doing, so that is why I work it out 2 days before the deadline if I’ve got a huge workload for that day.

  • Hey Stacy, I can’t wait to see the follow up post about avoiding the need to react to stress.

In one of the subdomains to my blog, I delved on how to feel good (always, if possible) in order to get away from the trap of negative thoughts. Recently, however, I realized that I have not been walking the walk and talking the talk anymore because the tendency to entertain negative thoughts is back. As a result I went down with the flu last week and had just recovered.

This post thus came in good time for me as I really need to pick myself up now and rise back up. And again, I’m holding my breath for the follow up. :)

  • There is no getting away from the fact that stress effects almost everybodies lives, and in most cases this is in an incredibly determinental way, evidence shows that it is the 2nd cause of absenteeism from work. The problem is amplified by people knowing that they are ‘stressed’ but not finding the time to deal with it, how many times have you heard ‘but i don’t have time to relax’?
