I don’t make a habit of friend-collecting on Facebook, so when I only have 651 friends and I got over 115 likes and 47 comments on a single picture that I posted, that really meant something! How did I do it?
The first thing I did was exactly this:
No, that isn’t the image that got so many likes although it did get some. The message on the image is what I did before I got the likes and comments:
I rediscovered a dream and I went for it.
I didn’t let anything get in my way.
I learned everything that I could about how to make it happen.
I struggled.
I overcame.
I was devoted.
I brought my dream to life and posted a picture of the final and long awaited product: my newly published novel!
It was seven months in the making, but the moral of the story is this:
Get out there and do something that fires you up. When you achieve success, people will come out of the woodwork to support you!
Don’t worry about the likes, go out there and do something that you love. The likes will follow.
To Your Success,

Yup, definitely! The likes are just a secondary result, a bonus for your work.
I’d definitely like that photo if I were on your friends list!

Congrats, Stacy!

Thank you, Andrew! I used to worry about the numbers, but I’ve found that as I focus on what really matters the numbers come as a result.
Thank you for stopping by!

Hi Kelly,
Thank you very much! My dream started out as a struggle too. It takes a lot of courage and effort to make them happen. You might be interested in a post I wrote a while back on how I moved from uninspired to inspired: http://growwithstacy.com/2012/09/12/2-things-you-need-to-live-your-dreams/

That’s a great story and a great moral, Stacy – I especially like that you include ‘smile’. As far as I can see, the most successful people are those who spend their time doing what they love – so even though they work hard, they often say it doesn’t feel like work, more like playtime.
Congratulations on your success – and thanks for this inspirational post,

Congratulations on completing your novel, Stacy! Looking forward to reading it.
As for what you said, it’s true. The likes are just the perks you’ll get after you achieve your goal. So focus on achieving your goal first.

Congratulations! And I agree. I see authors attending “liking parties” and other similar events so they can collect a ton of likes on their fan pages, but then I don’t see those authors really posting anything of substance. In fact, when they post something on the rare occasion about one of their books, they might get 2-3 likes. When they post funny, unrelated-to-writing pics, that’s when they get over 20 likes. So, I guess the question becomes, why aren’t their “fans” liking their writing- and book-related posts. I mean, this one author I know has almost 3,000 fans on her fan page, but gets under five likes when she posts something about her books. And I think it’s because she got all those likes from attending the parties and events I mentioned earlier. People simply liked her page because they wanted her to like theirs back. They have no interest in her or her books.
So, I’m glad to see you’ve earned your likes the right way. It means more when people like you and your posts when it’s apparent they actually want to be there.

I’m not too big on Facebook and only my close friends and family can see the page so it’s pretty hard to reach that mark. But yes, with all the points you stated that’s definitely achievable.
