Use of the Internet is increasing day by day. People waste a lot of time in the Internet. As a result the number of blog readers is also increasing. Blogs are taking the place of books now.
This occurs because of the popularity of blogs. Bloggers take the profession of writing blogs as an alternative of writing books. And in one word, they are successful. Moreover, they use a craft of writing to make their blogs so popular which is done by book writers also. This makes the blogs readers spend more time for reading posts.
Books vs. Blogs
So, why can’t we say that blogs are the alternatives of books? As blog and book writing is the same we should find common features.
- All books can’t get popularity for many reasons but some of them get unbelievable success. The same thing can happen with blogs.
- Book writers love to write in their own language, blog writers love it as well.
- Some book writers consider their work as a profession; some of them do it to improve the cultural heritage of the nation. Blog writers also do this.
- There are unbelievable numbers of bloggers who maintain their blogs only for their own interest and nothing else. But some bloggers also keep blogging for earning money. It’s very popular kind of business today.
- A book needs to be published before reaching to the readers. Blog also maintains the same rule. But the difference is that the blog writers maintain all the process via the Internet and there is no necessity to go the publishers again and again. New bloggers like to publish their writing in blogs because there is no system to go to the publishers and request anyone to print writings.
- Qualified writings are approved in blogs. So writers in the blogs are increasing day by day in compare with the number of book writers. One of the reasons is that bloggers can write about everything; propose different services, including even essay writing help.
- Experience is an important issue in writing. If you check the top bloggers profile you can see that all of them are highly experienced in blogging.
Differences between blogs and books
- There are some differences in blogging and book writing. One more difference is a team. Book writers don’t work in cooperation with somebody. It happens very seldom. But blog writers can work as a team member to make a common blog more successful and familiar all over the world.
- Again the possibility to become popular all over the world as a blog writer is easier while to have a status of famous book writer is so tough.
You can see that blog writing becomes an alternative of book writing step by step. Nowadays people not only read in the Internet but also start writing. What will happen in ten, fifty years nobody can predict?

Sonia,
This post is so relevant for me, as I wrote/published a book … with no author platform in place. After a lot of research, and some reluctance on my part, I realized one of the best ways to start grown the platform was to build a strong blog, with salient, meaningful subject matter. As in, the blog can’t JUST be to sell an author’s book.
So, like you say, blogging and book writing are distinct entities.
Thanks!
Laura

I completely agree that blogs are the new books, and as great as that is for me as a blogger, I’m really sad about that as an avid book-lover. The problem is that I am now picking blogs over my beloved stack of books, and I miss it. I would miss my blogs if I favored the books too. Basically there just aren’t enough hours in my day I guess

In a better case, writing blogs could be as valuable and entertaining just like writing books, but unfortunately, the most blogs aren’t from that quality. Of course, yours is kinda great book;)

I figured out the other day that all of my blogs probably add up to around 3 books worth of content, which is kinda scary.
There will always be crossover between the two I suspect. Many bloggers have published books, and many authors write blogs.

“People waste a lot of time in the Internet.”
I just wondered if “waste” in this sentence is intentionally there.
I think blogs, e-books, printed books are in an incomplete process of change and it is quite difficult to predict where they will be after a while.
Thank you for the brief information and thoughts.

Publishing your own book is a great idea. However, it takes lots more time, research and dedication. I published my first book several years back about real estate and it took me several months of preparation and research.
On the other hand, doing my regular blog updates are much easy going. I cover almost everything from business to health in my blog and I have much diversity in the blog posts. But when it comes to the book it is more complex.

I think that blogging can become an alternative to books only to some extent. Sure, we cannot predict what happens in 10 or 50 years, but I hope that people will love books, like I do today. Blogging is just fine, and a lot of bloggers put their heart and soul into their posts. Yet, most of them look only like a kind of raw material for a future book. I am not sure, if I am too conservative or just love books too much.

Hello, thank you for sharing this post. I think blogs and books do have some similarities because in both of them you are expressing your feelings and telling a story. However, books tend to be more formal and obviously longer, so more detailed.

100% agree with you. writing blogs are equal to writing books because both we write for our readers.

I Love books-but have no time to buy or pick them up from the library. Opening up a blog/website is so much easier and convenient. Add to it the palmtops and tablet computers that have made blogs so much better to read. Furthermore there is the social interaction on such platforms- where one starts believing in one’s online friends more than the real ones.

Hey Sonia,
You’re absolutely right, I totally agree with you on this one. I think it’s not a big deal whether you are writing a book or a blog, it’s only the same. These are but creative ways to express one’s thoughts and share ideas. I enjoy reading articles both on blogs and books, and I find them all the same. Great article Sonia! Keep blogging!

Completely agree with you in this topic additionally it might happen a book writer cannot afford necessary money or support for his book to publish. And also there is something to do about marketing the book too. Thinking all those it is apparent that blogging is better for those especially new writers.
