Positive thinkers don’t only live happier lives have better health but they are also more likely to reach their goals. Negative thinking ruins people’s lives and prevents them from succeeding.
Even if a negative thinker managed to succeed his life is still going to be tough because he wont be able to enjoy the success he achieved.
Because of these reasons and many reasons I decided to write this post to tell you how to become a positive thinker and how to get over negative thinking.
How to stay positive
1) Stay around positive people: have you ever felt bad for no reason just because you were around someone who was feeling bad? People infect each others with their emotions and beliefs and that’s why one of the best ways to stay positive is to stick to positive people or at least spend more time with them.
2) Reduce the stress in your life: stress isn’t only harmful to your life but it can also change your perception of the world. The more stressed you become the more likely you are to worry and create negative scenarios in your head. If you can dedicate enough time to relax and restore your energy each day you will become a more positive person.
3) Train your mental muscles: just like body muscles can be trained your mental muscles can be trained as well. The more you think positively the more likely your brain structure is going to change and the more naturally positive thoughts will come to you. The opposite also happens with negative thinking, the more you train your mind to think negatively the more you will become a natural negative thinker.
4) Get exposed to positive media: read about the stories of successful people, listen to motivating music and watch movies that promote positive thinking. Whenever you get exposed to positive media your mind gets trained to think positively and as a result you will become a positive thinker. Avoid negative media at all costs for it can do the opposite to you.
5) Plan ahead: people who have plans worry less about the future than those who don’t have any plans. If you are following a solid plan and if you also have a backup plan then you are going to get much less negative thoughts and you will become a positive thinker.
Final words about positive thinking
Start right now to train your mind on positive thinking. It wont happen overnight of course but if you persisted sooner or later you will become a positive thinker.
Don’t procrastinate and don’t wait any more because each day you spend with your old negative patterns modifies your brain structure a bit.

Negativity is intergenerational in my family. I have tried to get it out of my life and fail time and again. Thanks for the positive suggestions. I am going to try to catch myself being negative and ask myself if that thought is true.

For me, US Weekly, E! Channel, any type of gossipy glossy media – make me feel back about myself. I end up thinking I need plastic surgery, my life is boring, my personal style out-dated.
I’ve realized that I simply can avoid these “guilty pleasures,” and feel much better about myself. Thanks for the great reminders, Stacy!

Staying around positive people is for me the number one aspect of being happy and positive in life. When we start hanging around bad people is the point when things start to go wrong.

I cannot stress enough how much being around positive people (and reducing my time spent around negative people) has helped with my attitude. It is all about taking care of your own mental health, and if someone is ALWAYS complaining, whining, or being negative, then they are not allowed in my space. Period. I even kick myself in the ass when I get negative.

I’m sorry chaps, but I don’t see how you can live your lives in a vacuum and not be depressed by what is happening to this planet. The NHS is struggling with an obesity epidemic and may be dismantled; mothers in Somalia and Kenya have tried to hand their children over to journalists to take back to Europe rather than let them die of starvation, and you are talking about being positive. The only way to not feel utterly depressed is to either be delusional, or to become socially active in your local community.
Adulthood is when the true human condition is unveiled to us and we find joy in our immediate family if we’re lucky, but despair at what we do to each other as humans. Winston Churchill suffered from depression btw. I think depression is a very human normal reaction to our rubbish 21st century. I look after elderly people whose children don’t have time to do it. I look after children whose parents don’t have time to do it. How messed up is that? I really think a person needs tunnel vision to be happy at all times day in day out. Or be a simpleton. Or a small child. And the worst does happen, often.
The arts, music, alcohol, singing, were all invented by us to give us a break from the scariness of living. So do all you can to protect all bases, but also accept that feeling like shit is also an acceptable human trait, and it’s OK.

I agree with this to some extent, but I also believe you have to face the bad things in life on some days. Some days you have to hold your hands up and think – I need to let this negativity out, I need to say ‘I am not happy today’
I say this only because the chronic need to be happy and positive all the time can actually have a negative impact on your life – because when you inevitably ‘fail’ at being happy and positive all the time, you feel like a ‘failure’. Or on the flip side, you feel like you are living a lie, and then when you finally admit to some negativity, you forget that this negativity did not permeate every moment of your day, and it seems like a larger problem than it actually is.
However, it is also important to say to yourself – Okay, this is today, or maybe this is just this morning. But I will do something good this afternoon to make me feel more positive, I will think about something that makes me feel good about myself. So yes sometimes be negative, but be ready to let go of it as quickly as it comes.
