Deception can be a good thing. You may even feel deceived before you reach the end of this post.
In fact, I can pretty much guarantee it.
Typically we think of deception as a bad thing. The word has very negative connotations attached to it because most of the time when being deceived it’s because someone is hiding something negative.ย There are times when being deceived isn’t negative.
Have you ever had a surprise party thrown for you? Chances are you were given some false information and were deceived but you quickly forgave because the deceit was for your benefit.
Hopefully you’ll feel pleasantly deceived by the time that you reach the end of this post. Because if you clicked a link to read this post hoping to learn about how deception can be positive in your life due to this being a personal development blog you will probably be disappointed.ย If there is an interest I can probably write a post about that some day!
Deception
Today I am excited to share with you a preview of my upcomingย (now published!) first novel entitled Deception! It is the first in a series (I’ve already started book number two) called The Transformed. I’ve been sharing about the book for some time on the blog but this is the first time that I’m sharing anything beyond the fact that I’ve stepped out and grabbed a hold of my life long dream to publish novels.
In Deception you will meet Alexis who is a young woman with big dreams. She feels trapped in her life where she is overlooked and misunderstood. She knows that she can create a life for herself that far exceeds the life she is experiencing. Strange things start to happen to and around her and she begins to suspect that she isn’t who she has been lead to believe all of her life.
As she searches for the truth of who she really is she begins to discover things that lead her to believe that she might not want to know the truth about herself. She doesn’t know what the truth is but the one thing that she is certain of is that she is being deceived. And she’s right. Will the truth be too much for her to take?
Do I have your interest?
I will be releasing the book later this year so you will have to wait for now. I will be releasing updates and information and you can stay in the loop a few ways.
- You can sign up for the email newsletter and receive periodic updates and free bonus chapters only available to newsletter subscribers!
- You can visit and like my new Facebook page for my fiction works.
- I’ve also created a websiteย where I will also add updates. As of the latest update of this post (Jan. 2013) I’m in the process of editing the 2nd book in the series and writing the third!
The Cover
Don’t you love the book cover? I do and all the credit goes to Bryan Hufalar. I told him the basic (read: vague) idea of a cover that I wanted and he created this masterpiece! He took different elements from the story and created a wonderful representation of the book. Not only does he have a lot of great ideas and skill but I could not have asked for someone more helpful to work with. If you need some great graphics head on over to Bryan’s site and contact him!

Stacy: The cover of your book is awesome! I have a dream of publishing many novels as well and actually, I have had the dream for quite some time now. The thing is, it is easy to get off track! I could work on my book hardcore for a couple months and then not do any work on it for the next couple months. I am trying to work on my consistency, but I also do not want to force myself to do anything. When I am not working on my book then I do other things that make me happy.
It cool that you love writing fiction! I love fiction too and hopefully someday we can both become great fiction authors and be at our best! ( :

Hi William,
One thing that has really helped me to take my writing to the next level is reading the book On Writing by Stephen King. He shares a lot of his strategies for writing successful fiction (and he knows about successful fiction!) He writes every single day and he suggests writing at least 1,000 to 2,000 words a day. It really does help to stay on target using those daily goals.

Hey William … I understand about not wanting to force things. Patience is a good thing and getting into your zone or “sweet spot” is also good. Think of this: happiness also comes from breaking through resistance. Sometimes it is a good thing to grumble and stumble through something that doesn’t feel good temporarily.
Haven’t we all found that life is a mixture of smooth sailing and rough waters? If you really, really want it, you’ll become that great fictional writer … go for it!
