Habit Building Day #25: What a Story!

Life Story

This week we have been using our imaginations to create a mind picture of our ideal life. Monday we looked at the big picture of what our ideal life would look like. Yesterday we zoomed in and looked at our ideal day within the ideal life.

Today we are going to continue tapping into our creative side! It will also build upon the last two days so you don’t have to worry about starting over with an empty slate.

You may have been able to guess what the exercise is today based on the title of this post or the image! If not, I’ll tell you. Today’s exercise it write out a narrative or story about the life that you you desire.

You are a week away from finishing this challenge and if you have been practicing your new habit daily for all of the month then you should be extremely close to having a new habit in your life!

One way to keep this exercise fun is to write it out as a story. You could even start it with “Once Upon A Time…” and write it as a fairly tale or you could choose another favorite type of story that you love. It could be a mystery, a romance novel, even a how-to guide. It’s your story and your choice!

Take your answers to the questions posed over the last two days to spark your imagination. Be inspired by your dreams and hopes of your future, your ideal life which will be a reality some day as you take daily steps to bring it to life!

If you’d like your story to provide action toward bringing your ideal life alive you can write your story about HOW you are going to get there. It doesn’t have to be a story about you living your ideal life, though it certainly can be, but it could be very helpful for you bringing it to life by writing about how you are going make it happen!

It also doesn’t have to be long, you could write a page if that is what is sufficient for you. Or you could write a few pages or a chapter or if you are really inspired to write a story you could make a long-term project by writing an entire book for yourself. It’s all up to you!

The point is to get inspired and continue to be excited about the habit you are building and how it’s helping you to gain the life that you really want!

To Your Success,

Stacy

You are right! Very often, actually just after writing an e-mail or just a note , I truly realize my thoughts – when I see them on the white sheet!

    Hi Carrie,

Life would be very dull and not much would be accomplished if we didn’t have inspiration! :)

  • Another version of the story idea that might work for some people is to write a story set in the future — 5 years is good — that describes your life as it is at that time. You use present tense as you write, but are describing events that are yet to happen. It is the use of the present tense that is the magical component — it can fool your brain into thinking that you have already overcome the obstacles that you see standing in your way.

    Hi Lesa,

You’re very much in tune with this series because that is a topic that has been discussed recently! :) Great point about how using the present tense can trick our minds!

  • This is a very interesting post, Stacy. I think stories are extremely powerful. Aside from the fact that we’re all suckers for stories, they get us out of the head and into our hearts. Writing the story of the life you envision and “how” you made it happen will light the fire of your heart. Bring in some imagination and you’re home. I love it!

    Hi Srinivas,

Stories are very powerful – and yes it’s so easy to get sucked into a good one! :) I have always loved reading and writing stories, I started writing chapter stories as soon as I could write full sentences!
