A great way to calm your mind and your emotions is to meditate – I should know because the habit that I’ve been building this month is meditation!
To set the record straight, I planned on having meditation be a daily activity for the challenge before I decided that meditation was going to be my habit for the month. I’m not merely trying to throw this in to make today easy on me since I’m already meditating daily!
Today’s activity
Quiet…
So today I encourage you to sit down in a quiet place with some pleasant music and quiet your mind. Let the mind chatter disappear into the background, don’t fight it – just let them go.
Focus…
Focus on your breathing, focus on the music, focus on some point in the room – just find a way to quiet your mind and relax fully. I know that it’s easier said than done, that mind chatter can be very noisy! If you focus on something else then it will go away.
Visualize…
Then once you are relaxed and your mind is quiet I want you to imagine (not mind chatter – no inner dialogue!) your habit and image having success with the habit. i want you to see yourself when your habit is realized and you are no longer working on it. Focus on what your life will be like as you go along through life with your new habit.
Imagine a month down the road, then two months, then six months and then a year. What success you have achieved and accomplished! What victory you’ve obtained! What a great job you have done! Revel in the happiness, the victories, the accomplishments!
Hold on…
As you come back to the present and step out of the meditative state I want you to hold onto the pictures of your upcoming accomplishments and victories. I want you to hold onto the relaxed state while you think of your habit. I want you to hold onto the good emotions tied in with those and enjoy working on your new habit for the rest of the month. Your habit is almost a habit now!!
To Your Success,

I have heard that meditation really helps bring more focus in your life and helps quiet your mind when you’re feeling flustered or stressed out about something. I am going through some life changes and this is a great idea that I need to work on more to implement in my life consistently. I love this series you have created. Very uplifting and inspiring.

Hi Sonia,
I have really found all of that to be true. It works best when done consistently so it’s a great habit to build – as I’m finding out!
I’m glad that you find the challenge helpful, thank you for letting me know!

I have Meditation on my daily to-do list as well. Although I don’t have a lot of time to do it, taking 5 minutes for myself between clients or meetings helps immensely.
The real problem is getting your inner monologue to stop.

Hi Pete,
I have found time to be an issue too! I’ve looked into purchasing different meditation audios which are an hour in length and I don’t have a solid hour to dedicate to it. I have found that 10-20 minute sessions work best for. Or like you said even 5 minutes during a busy day!

Being a small business owner means that you are going to deal with a ton of stress. I was on every precription medication you can think of, and it only took 45 minutes, spread out over 3 times a day of meditation to set me straight.
good lucky stacey!

Thank you for sharing your success with meditation, Rich! I’ve found that 20 minutes twice a day does wonders for me, if I only get one session in I notice the difference!

Thanks for your post Stacy, I’ve been meditating on and off for many years now, partly to help me sleep at night, but the benefits have been for my whole life. It really makes me feel lighter inside and calmer, relieving anxiety and sadness. I’ve recently started Chi Kung (v similar to Tai Chi) which is a great way of meditating if you have a very active mind, since you get to do movements which help me focus. I recommend it!

Hi Louisa,
I have not heard of that, thank you for the recommendation! I will keep that in mind!
I’ve been trying some different sample audios that use binaural beats and they are sooo relaxing! The trouble is deciding which one to purchase first!

Great meditation! Daily meditation is next on my list of habits to build. I’m a huge believer in the benefits of meditation and I really need to do it every day instead of just when I think of it.

Meditation can be challenging when you’re not used to it. Like me, my mind can sometimes so overactive it’s hard to keep it still and focused. But like some things, it takes getting used to and a lot of practice.

Hi Lis,
Yes it does take time and practice to quiet the mind! That is one reason that I like to use music and guided meditations. It helps to have something for the mind to focus on!

Hi Stacy,
My first time visiting your blog (noticed you in Bob and Rosemary’s CommentLuv section). Love this great post you’ve done on meditations. I’m a big believer in making quality self-time in order to keep life balanced in the midst of the constant action that is going on.
I have been using Holosync technology over the years and have found it to be really beneficial (it really gets me *there*) effectively.
Thanks for sharing your insight! I’ll be checking out more of your blog here. Great stuff!
Best regards,

I have really enjoyed the Holosync demo CD though I have not tried the full program. I am currently using a similar one and the results of the technology is nothing short of amazing!

Hi Growwithstacy,
I just stumbled across this and, The way of Zen is better one particular?s very well-staying / contentment / existence by allowing improvement in a person?s self flow, not be pressured. As in, when you have a damaging considered or procrastinate or do anything that?s just not aiding you grown to be a a lot better you, you don?t scold by yourself for it, you say ?alright. I did that. Moving on??
This is given that when you scold oneself for some thing like procrastinating in typing up a report , just as an instance, your mentally building this approach that you aren?t reputable adequate you have been built with faults you Have to resolve you have to reinvent you.
But with Zen, when one particular catches themselves procrastinating , back again to that instance , a person can take a 2nd to address by themselves, ?I?m procrastinating when you consider that I had a behavior of carrying out this when I was youthful but now I can?t get away with it Now it?s catching up to me.?
Thanks

Hi Ake,
No, it doesn’t accomplish anything to get down on oneself. It doesn’t solve anything and it makes it harder to solve anything if you are putting yourself down.

I attended some meditation classes some time ago. Problem is I cannot concentrate myself even with the guru guiding me around in the class. The only time I can concentrate and relax myself is when I am total sleep. I wonder how u guys relax your mind without any thinking during mediatation?

Hi Janice,
It does take practice and even with guided meditations it takes practice to keep the mind focused at first.
