Habit Building Day #17: Anticipate Obstacles

ObstaclesWe are past the half-way point of building a new habit! We now have more time behind us than we have in front of us – as far as the month of habit building is concerned! Obviously we have a lot of time following the challenge but the idea is that when that time arrives we will have a habit and not be building it.

Though if you are anything like me you already have a list of new habits that you plan on building after this month is over!

Whether or not you have already run into obstacles yet in this habit building challenge you will run into some before the month is over and your habit is built! That’s just the way it goes with any type of goal or aspiration.

Prepare Yourself

The best thing that you can do is to prepare yourself for obstacles before they arrive! If you have already had obstacles come up then you know what types of obstacles to prepare for in the coming days and weeks. If you haven’t yet had any I’m sure that it won’t take too much imagination to figure out what might come your way.

Be Aware

Being aware that obstacles are normal and happen to everyone is half the battle! Many people jump into goals and resolutions eager and excited only to be blindsided by troubles just to become discouraged and give up. Oftentimes they feel like a failure simply because obstacles came their way.

Don’t take obstacles personally!

They happen to everyone and if you aren’t running into obstacles then you probably aren’t challenging yourself enough. You should actually worry if you don’t have any obstacles!

Obstacles lead to growth

Do you remember last week when we discussed the lesson that the bamboo plant has to teach us? Even if we don’t see the growth it is happening and it is helping to prepare us for the upcoming success if we just persevere!

Have you found that you have more success over obstacles when you anticipate them? Or do you see that as being negative thinking?

To Your Success,

Stacy

  • You’ve got great point of views! Obstacles are made to make us stronger, wiser and more determined to fight for our goals not make us losers. The best way to overcome hardships are faith, confidence and i think motivation to keep moving forward.

  • Hi Stacy. Interesting post.

I have to say I don’t really think of the obstacles so I guess I would fall into the ‘seeing that as negative thinking’ category. In the past obstacles have fed my negative self talk to the point where I just feel like what’s the point. A new strategy for me in 2012 is to command more. So I guess what I mean is I’m really pushing forward with the positive affirmations. Willing myself to succeed no matter how huge the task seems and not letting the obstacles get a look in. Still have my ‘blah’ moments but I seem to pass through them quicker now.

I think that anticipating and preparation is half the success and there’s nothing negative about it, it has helped me greatly so i really agree with your post

    Ella,

I agree with that, without preparation and anticipation we won’t set ourselves up properly for success!

  • For me removing these obstacles in my path like karma, because it plays a large role in what we receive in this lifetime, but even things which may seem like bad karma, are actually opportunities for growth. Thanks for sharing this wonderful post Stacy.
