We are now in the second week of creating a new habit to better our lives! That’s pretty exciting! How do you feel?
In order to create a little extra motivation for yourself to keep going every day building this habit consider creating a reward for yourself. Obviously the day that you realize you have a new habit is a reward in and of itself.
Until then it might help if you have a reward for yourself, even if it’s a small reward. It should be something that you can look forward to and also something that won’t interfere with your new habit. If exercising to lose weight is what you are working on then a big piece of cake every day is not going to help you! It’s going to make it harder for you to lose weight.
I have found that with the habit that I am building, daily meditation, is a reward in and of itself with the benefits that I am experiencing. I’m more relaxed throughout the day, more alert, and most days accomplishing more than I was before. Because of this, most days I have found the time to add it in twice instead of just once!
The reward that you choose can be daily, weekly or any other increment of time that you think will work as a good motivator for yourself.
Ideas to reward yourself
- Watching a favorite tv show
- Playing a favorite game
- Calling a friend
- Going out to eat instead of cooking
- Reading a favorite book
- Spending time on a favorite hobby
- Going to the spa
- Having a friend watch the kids
- Bubble bath
- Ask someone to do something for you
- Take a nap

I love having rewards for myself every week. A good spa treatment (yes even straight guys go to spa).

Never underestimate the power of a good facial!
It can help us to feel better for days afterward!

Well I must say that I disagree with rewarding yourself with watching tv.
Unless it’s a news channel, a tv series can get pretty addictive. For example, whenever I watched one episode I would tune in to the rest. (I’m lucky I’ve managed to kick that habit, by not watching any tv at all!)
But other than that, another great post this is!
I look forward to 3 weeks more of these posts!

Hi Amanda,
You’re right about tv shows being addictive when they have story lines that continue from week to week.
Personally I don’t watch much TV so for me it’s a treat to sit down and watch an episode a show that I love.
What kinds of rewards do you like for yourself?

So many ways to reward oneself, even sometimes checking my website stats is a reward at times lol. Very geeky I know. But the ultimate reward for me is taking the morning off to go shopping, coming back with a handful of clothes and trying them all on. Yes shopping makes me a very happy girl.

Sweets are a tasty reward!

I agree, with every hardship or habit that we do, rewarding ourselves with even just the tiny things can really make a difference. Rewards that can motivate me would be spending time with family and friends, watching TV, or taking a long good night’s sleep. Life does not have to be all work and no play for the grownups

Hmm it looks like your website ate my first comment (it was extremely long) so I guess I’ll just sum it up what I had written and say, I’m thoroughly enjoying your blog. I too am an aspiring blog writer but I’m still new to everything. Do you have any recommendations for first-time blog writers? I’d certainly appreciate it.
