One thing that we can do to keep ourselves motivated on a daily basis (which is important when we are daily building a new habit!) is to read what the experts have to say about living a life of success!
My Recommended Readings:
The Slight Edge - I love the audio version personally because I can listen to it anywhere, while I’m doing anything. In the car, doing house or yard work, sitting quietly with the kids. It’s a great message for the kids to listen to! When I listen to it my 5 year old will quote things from the book to us!
This book deals with the compound effect that we talked about yesterday. Jeff Olson teaches us specifically and in an entertaining way how we can build habits to change our lives for the better over time by making good choices that seem insignificant over time.
Much in the same way that choosing a salad or a triple cheeseburger won’t make much of a difference in your health today at lunch, but if you make that same choice every day for a year it will make a big difference!
Do The Work - This is a how-to manual on fighting the resistance that always comes up in life and business when we start aiming for success. This book came highly recommended from another blogger last year who said that she bought copies for people that she works with in her business. I’m glad that I got it because I found the book to be so inspiring! I could barely put it down.
The Secret Code of Success - this is the book that I refer to often on the blog because Noah St. John teaches us about afformations (not affirmations) and I have found afformations to be so much more effective than affirmations. I have found affirmations to be quite effective but where they lack afformations fill in the blanks.
The book goes beyond teaching us about how and why afformations are so effective, that’s just one of seven steps of success that Noah teaches. He has spent a lot of time with many, many successful people and he has found the seven things that they all have in common. I treat this book as a workbook and have grown so much as a result!
The Daily Maxwell - You saw that quote that I shared yesterday and in my other posts leading up to this habit building challenge. The guy who coined that quote, John C. Maxwell has written a LOT of books on success, personal development and business leadership.
In The Daily Maxwell he shares and excerpt from his other books to give you a bite-sized daily dose of inspiration in personal growth and leadership success. It’s a part of my day that I look forward to!
Adjust Your Thinking…Change Your Life - This is the book that I give away for free to those who sign up for my newsletter. Grab it now by joining my newsletter, it isn’t going to be free for much longer! Soon I’m going to have a new free ebook for my subscribers (which you will get first if you are receiving my newsletter) and this book will be for sale.
Other books and blog posts - You can also find books pertaining to the individual habit that you are working on.
These are some of my blog posts that you might find inspiring…
Happy reading!
I would love to hear from you! If you have read some of the books I have suggested, what did they mean to you? Do you have other favorite inspirational readings that you’d like to share?
Go out there and do your daily activity!
To Your Success,
If you missed yesterday’s post you can find it here.

I have not read any of these books, but my recommendation is “The Simplicity Survival Handbook”. It is about business and productivity, but I see that as an important part of success. Productivity happens when we are in tune with what matters and can prioritize accordingly.

Hi Stacy, well I must say this habit building is taking more preparation to build the new habit than I would have thought! LOL. In other words its not easy which makes me want to roll around and pound the floor in a child like tantrum.
Funnily (again) I don’t know if I’ve ever told you but I DO start the day listening to either an e-book or an uplifting presentation. Right now I am ‘trying’ to test subliminal recordings at night which put me to sleep (LOL) and frankly I’m not sure what (if anything) they’ve produced so far. Not so sure these do it for me. I am also in the midst of listening to binary recordings… which just about do my head in. (LOL). I know I keep laughing…
Its just that this year I’m doing things a bit differently. I have a number of irons in the fire so I’m trying to be as streamlined as possible in order to fit everything in. I am hoping by the end of the week I’ll be whipped into shape in order to move forward on my tidy little book of scheduling.
See you tomorrow.

Hi Jayne,
You would really like the meditation CD that I am sampling for free. I can’t wait to get my hands on the ‘industrial strength’ real version! They use some kind of silent sounds that have an impact on your brain, causing new neural pathways to grow. Even with the sample CD I am amazed at the results. I am much more relaxed, I am getting stressed MUCH less than ever before. It’s crazy! I do fall asleep each time I listen to it at night!

Hi Stacy, is your CD a subliminal one too? in other words, calming music with words (in there somewhere) that can’t be detected by the conscious mind… yet the subconscious picks it up?
Let me know in a week or so how your CD is working for you. Perhaps I might get the info from you.
I do believe in it… it’s just hard to get used to and it’s another layer to my day… I just need to get more time.

Hi Jayne,
There aren’t words, it’s some kind of scientifically tested tones that have very positive affects on the brain and anti-stress hormones. I don’t get it, but I love the results, even after just one listen!

Reading your blog made me realize that I haven’t read an inspirational book for some time now. The last book that really hit home was… I forgot the title, sorry. It is about Darryl Anka and Bashar.
I must be getting old. I can’t remember what the title of the book was. Sorry.

One of the first books I read on success was Jack Canfields – The Success Principles. Loved it! Loved him! One of the things I carried with me from that book is the success journal.
Basically it’s where you write your successes for the day down at night and then build upon them.
For example:
Success – Made a new contact online
Reason it was a success – Contact has tons of knowledge about elephants.
Further progress – Make another new contact.
Next action – On Saturday find a new contact who knows about peacocks!
It’s a great way of continuously moving forward towards personal success, as well as recognizing your successes throughout the day (no matter how small) and setting up an action to take for more success.

Dear Stacy, I like your post, and i think that “Success is a journey, not a destination.”
Success is achieved when a stretch goal is met overcoming failures, problems and difficulties by conscious effort and by application of capabilities, resources and methods. It is to be differentiated from luck, chance and doing what comes naturally without effort.

Success is definitely a journey and not a destination. There is no “arriving” but always continual growth!
