The New Year is rapidly approaching and now is the time that a lot of people start to think about what changes they want to make for the upcoming year!
Even if you don’t set resolutions and if you prefer setting goals like I do, have you started thinking about what changes you would like to make so that next year is more successful than this year?
I started thinking about this last month and I have been working on the Habit Building Challenge since then to help myself and anyone else interested in building a new positive habit in the new year. Why focus on habits?
“You will never change your life until you change something
you do daily. The secret of your success is found in your
daily routine.”– John C. Maxwell
The Habit Building Challenge
I have been putting together activities for each day of the month of January to help solidify any habit that you wish to build. Each day’s activity is designed to give you tools to turn your desired habit into a real habit by the end of the month if you are consistent and participate each day.
A new habit will greatly assist you in going where you want to go because habits are something that you don’t put much thought into as they come naturally!
Your options for a new habit are endless. The following are just a few ideas:
- Eat healthier
- Exercise regularly
- Reach a specific rank or level in your company
- Use afformations or affirmations daily
- Write 3-5 blog posts per week
- Improve your blog statistics
- Replace negative thinking with positive thinking
- Drink water instead of pop or coffee
- Connect with more people daily
- Build your business
- Stress less
- Meditation
- Spend more time with kids, spouse or a friend
- Educate yourself
- Wake up earlier
- Or…?
There will be blog posts, emails, freebies, discussion, and support for all involved! After this challenge everything will be packaged together for purchase – but this challenge is totally free and participants can keep everything to use over and over again with each new habit that you want to create!
Get ready to start next year off on a successful foot!
Check out the original Habit Building post to learn more about the challenge and to see what others are saying about the challenge. You can also see what habits other people are going to be working on next month.

At the moment I want to keep flexible so am more doing new things rather than developing habits. I think developing habits rely on doing the same thing in pretty much the same time in the same way. At the moment things are a bit unpredictable for this.

Yay! I guess I started it right. I was too busy in celebrating holidays with family which I never even done for about how many years now. For me, that’s the most challenging part, to unplug myself to work and find time to enjoy my vacation with family members.

Sometimes we do have to unplug and just relax!

Yeah! But sometimes, it is pretty difficult to stop working and to start enjoying. Most especially if you’re inspired to work on something. Its precisely my problem.

Last year i had made a resolution that i will quite smoking. I kept on trying and on 9th April 2011 i had my last ciggy. It really was tough, but now i am clean and really enjoying myself, saved quite money and this winter my throat was perfect.
For this year i need to make a resolution, and i have been workingout for just 3 days a week, will try to workout for minimum 5 days a week. nothing big besides it!

Wonderful list Stacy!
Coincidentally I had also penned down my wish list and resolutions for the coming year, though it was a mixture of things. But I think it is a wonderful idea to challenge your own self and set goals that you would aim to achieve.
Thanks for sharing and a wonderful reminder.

Hi Stacy,
I am continuing my focus on meditation and visualization, with a bump up in my affirmations.
The routine will be carried into the new year.
Maxwell is on: change your habits and your life will change. The day to day stuff becomes your life. Amazing, how a simple change in habits – preceded by seemingly small decisions on a daily basis – make such a profound impact on your life.
I like taking hourly breaks for 5 to 10 minutes to etch my goals further into my mind with affirmations. I also add some meditation to quiet my mind, expand my awareness and improve my concentration. Many times we are fully unaware of our thoughts, and since our thoughts and feelings determine how we live, we better be aware of what’s going down the mental pike.
Thanks for sharing your insight Stacy.

Hi Ryan,
I am always inspired by your hourly breaks. It is something that I would like to work into my schedule at some point.
I’m now building the habit of meditating daily and I look forward to adding more to that!

I’m really looking forward to the challenge although I’m still debating which goal to go with. Yikes there I go procrastinating again. Maybe that’s what I should focus working on…

Hi Stacy,
I read about the slight edge and it has been the lynch pin to my overall dilemma. Every time my “Perfection Monster” gets in my way I just stop and think: “I don’t have to be done, I can just work on one step towards what I want.” It is amazing how I feel! I look forward to joining your challenge this Jan! Thank you Stacy for freeing me from me!

I am continuing my habit of waking up at 3am but I want to incorporate the “Now Habit” into my life. Its a principle that I read about that will allow me to become even more productive and open up much more recreation time. I can’t wait!
Thanks for the great post.
