As you probably are aware of one of the most effective ways to build your blog readership, comments, ranking, stats, etc. is to be a part of a blog tribe as I have shared in many posts that I have written.
I have been in a few tribes over the life of this blog, whether they were officially called a tribe or not. I started my blog when I was part of The Unified Tribe, which is a syndication tribe. You were allowed to post a link to one of your blog posts after you had tweeted, shared, etc. 5 other posts. My early blog posts got a lot of tweets but not so many comments. Some people started posting about how commenting benefits the person leaving comments and people did start commenting more. It was a good way to meet other bloggers when I was just starting out, though I chose to leave because I didn’t want to pay for syndication.
Earlier this year I joined a commenting tribe on Facebook where the participants are required to comment on two other blogs in exchange for posting one blog post. I have found this tribe to be far more effective in bringing both comments and shares, not to mention votes! It’s been fun and a great way to meet some wonderful people!
As I have found in my blogging experience another great way to build your blog is through a challenge or a community. They are very similar though a challenge tends to be for a shorter period of time whereas a community doesn’t tend to have a time limit being that it is a community.
I joined the Prove It challenge in January and it had all of the benefits that I mentioned above from the Facebook commenting tribe and I’ve also seen my Alexa rank go down a lot (a good thing!) and my subscribers have gone up.
This year I also joined Heather Stephens’ community when she started the Blog Marketing Forum called the Clever Marketer Mastermind Community. It is a community for bloggers who are serious and committed to building a successful business, if you are a match then this could be the community for you! If you are an inconsistent blogger who isn’t committed to building your blog big then another community would be a better match for your needs and interests.
It is not only a great way to build my blog through comments, readers, ranking, etc. but the community is a wonderful group of people and I would love to see you over there too! I have gotten a lot out of the free membership, there is also a paid option with more features which you can check out if you are interested.
Check it out, I hope to see you there so that we can build successfully together!
To your success,

Hi Stacy!
Yes I love this Blog marketing Forum too, and now I find myself very interested with many of the participants’ blogs.

Hi Stacy, thanks for these ideas! I didn’t know there were such possibilities on Facebook.
I’m wondering: did you set up ‘Grow With Stacy’ as a separate FB account from your personal, friends-and-family one? It seems like a good idea to keep those separate, but I’m not sure how people go about it.

Hi Caroline,
With a quick search you can find several such groups on FB.
I have a fan page (‘like’ page) for Grow With Stacy but not a separate account because FB rules say only one account per person. Otherwise all accounts could be deleted!

Aaah, I see, thank you Stacy! I didn’t realize FB was so strict about one account per person, that’s definitely something to keep in mind. In that case a ‘fan’ page seems like the best way to go.

I love this community idea!
Working together is one of the reasons I think NaNoWriMo, a noveling contest that takes place in November, works so well. You are writing with a bunch of other writers who are working toward the same goal, so you can support and encourage each other.
Joining a blog tribe sounds like much the same idea. I’ve already found one or two places I like to go, and you’ve mentioned a couple more great sounding ones here.
Thanks for sharing, Stacy!

The noveling contest sounds like a great opportunity! Blog tribes do sound similar, it’s a great way to network and also bring some exposure to your blog!

Hey Stacy!
I LOVE this post! Blogging tribes, whether official or not, like you said, are such an essential thing to growth within your business and the community. There are so many awesome ones, too, so there’s really no excuse NOT to get involved.
Definitely going to check out the one you mentioned, too. Can never be apart of too many tribes, especially when we’re all working together to help each other!
Thanks for the great post!

Hi Stacy,
I’ve never joined a tribe and I’ll tell you why. Every time I was invited it was only because I had a huge following and they anted me to join under then to their tribe would do well. I honestly thought the tribe thing was rather close to a pyramid scam.
I had a look at Heather Stephens’ program and it looks pretty decent! 15 bucks a month for all that seems to eb an alright deal.

Hi Brian,
Great to see you here again. I can understand your hesitation given your past experiences. I have been a part of Heather’s tribe for a while now (though I did take the Summer off) and it’s been a really great experience, even with the free membership I have benefited from it!
Thank you for sharing!

Very interesting. I never even though of a blogging tribe before. I guess it’s a good way to get more traffic to your blog but it doesn’t seem like it would be targeted. If everyone is tweeting liking your articles as well that should help getting other people to your website instead of just the tribe.

Hi, Stacy! I’m completely “on the fence” when it comes to my blog. I love writing the posts but it is lacking “something”. I can’t quite put my finger on the problem. Sigh.

Thanks, Stacy! I read your ebook and I’m evaluating if my “niche” is working for me. Streamlining may be in order. I did discover a terrific plug-in! I started a separate diary to document my holistic journey and I used the plug-in to automatically redirect my readers to the new site! I’m sure you’ve heard of it – “Page Links To”. I also took your recommendation and added the “Do Follow” plug-in!
