Unique Marketing Ideas for Entrepreneurs

I had the opportunity not too long ago to watch a webinar by Ray Higdon. If you haven’t heard of Ray you need to acquaint yourself with him! His blog is full of free information that he could easily charge a lot of money for, you will see what I mean when you read this post which is from my notes on that particular webinar.

Ray shared how he had failed at multiple entrepreneurial endeavors before becoming the success that he is today. His lowest point was not very long ago when his mom was at his house and she answered the door to be served with his foreclosure papers.

Today he is living his dream life, traveling the world teaching others how to be successful entrepreneurs too.

Unique Marketing Ideas for Entrepreneurs

  • You need to be on the phone to kill it if you are in network marketing, most people who go into internet marketing want to avoid their warm market. Instead of directly trying to sell your warm market tell them that if they hear of anyone talk about your company come back and talk to you. Gain their curiosity, when they ask, say you’re too busy and get them the information later – further peak their curiosity!
  • Collect business cards: Become a card collector, a business card collector! Go to events and collect as many business cards as possible, but don’t talk about your business with anyone. Call everyone on those cards because people who go to the trouble of handing out cards want more money. Also take cards from card racks at stores, libraries, etc. because people who put their cards up are people of action (placing the cards) who want to earn more money. They may seem unapproachable because they’re already doing something, but they are more likely to be open to something new!
  • When you call those people don’t just try to sell them right away, you know that doesn’t work. You have got to build relationships, just like you wouldn’t go to someone online and start pitching to them. That would be spam!
  • Don’t worry about what works, worry about what duplicates. That’s where the real money is.
  • Get a Google voice number and get a voice message as a funnel, put out post it notes in high traffic areas to call about ways to earn an additional income.
  • Host a webinar with free information, then lead to a paid webinar or product at the end of the free webinar.
  • Go toward your fears until they no longer scare you!
  • Ask for referrals, online and offline. “Do you know anyone struggling in this economy?” Keep going back to someone who gives you referrals: “So and so that you referred me to is very excited about this, do you know anyone else who could benefit from this?”
  • Local Google alerts: look for businesses closing, find a way to find people who have lost jobs, won an award, etc. (Facebook, for instance.) Get creative, build relationships!
  • The biggest mistake in network marketing is to talk too much. Get a lead, make a relationship, connect. ASK questions. Listen.
  • Whatever your #1 fear is, that’s what you’re going to keep seeing. If you’re afraid they’re going to say pyramid, that’s what they’ll say. Get over it!
  • Don’t share with your warm market until you don’t care if they sign up or not. When you don’t care you won’t scare them away, pressure them, come off as needy, etc.

See what I mean? This is great stuff! Be sure to visit his blog, you will find all kinds of great nuggets like these.

Can you explain little bit more what is Google voice?

    [Reply]

    Stacy Reply:

    Hi Zain,

I haven’t used Google voice myself but they offer a free phone number (from what I understand) and you can have it forwarded to any phone. That way you can always use that google number even if you change your physical phone number.

    I hope that helps!

If you are an entrepreneur then you know that you are always in need of unique marketing ideas. In this post I share some truly golden ideas from Ray Higdon….

  • What great advice, Stacy. A lot of this is applicable to non-network marketing businesses too.

I like how he mixes tradition network industry wisdom with newer tips…I was always taught start with your warm market. He turns that on its head by saying not to share with them until you’re confident enough you don’t “need” them. But he encourages people to still use their warm market to enhance the relationships.

    Great insight.

I too really like how he mixes the newer and old school wisdom to make it all work together. It’s one reason that I really love his blog, webinars and other trainings!

  • Hi Stacy,
These are great tips. When I was in direct sales I found that one of the toughest things to get across to new entrepreneurs was that they needed to think of growing their business as a part of what they do every day – not something that they set aside an hour or two and then forget. One of my favorite things to do used to be spending the day with my Reprs – showing how prospecting doesn’t have to be painful is much more powerful than just telling them. Thanks for this great information!

  • All are spot on tips Stacy, Ray is a master. This one I luv:

“Whatever your #1 fear is, that’s what you’re going to keep seeing. If you’re afraid they’re going to say pyramid, that’s what they’ll say. Get over it!”

I encountered this resistance for quite a while. I believed people would see me as a scammer because I was a gifting mentor. Even though I wanted to help others prosper and my intent was pure, I still carried this limiting belief around. The more I felt it to be true, the more people who didn’t trust me, came my way.

When I released on it I began to attract people interested in gifting and fully believing in the concept with less and less effort. That’s the cool thing about facing fears; when you embrace and release them, you are rid of them. You no longer have to spend all day working with the fear in the back of your mind and your dreams come true with much less effort.

    Thanks for sharing with us.

  • Stacy I hopped over to Ray’s site and read some of his material. He’s had quite the journey with lots of varied experience. Thanks for the heads up.

I will say one thing: I was in sales for years and people can smell desperation a mile away. It’s tough to hide it so being pushy and needy won’t get the job done. Relax and assume the sale; be cool. It’s your job it isn’t a scary sales call. Just do it.

Yes, Ray has quite the story! I agree that people can sense that desperation and it is a major repellent. That is one reason that I love his point about not approaching the warm market until we don’t need them. I’ve seen people ruin friendships over that.

I loved this post. Isn’t it interesting how many marketing strategies one can adopt to promote their business. The more I journey through, the more ideas I find. The thing is, a person does not have to DO everything. Just adopt a few things that work well… and go with it. You can always try different things later or in addition.

I am so looking forward to meeting Ray. Thanks so much Stacy, you certainly share so much value on a regular basis. I am truly blessed to have you in my life.

  • These are some great tips, Stacy! I think that one of the things to remember is how to find potential business partners. This is something that I have found lacking from some proposals. I remember listening to one by a pretty big name (I won’t mention it because I don’t want to embarrass anyone) and he said, “You have to talk to ten people a day if you want to build an income.” That’s nice as far as it goes, but my question is how do we find those ten people a day to talk to? I don’t care who you are, but there are only so many people you know. This is something I’d like to see more about as well.

These tips you mentioned surely are going to be useful for aspiring internet marketers. I haven’t tried getting a Google Voice Number yet. I agree that when someone contacts you for the first time and immediately sells something to you, then chances are you won’t buy from them. Start building valuable relationships first and then the selling/buying comes as an added bonus to that relationship.
