If you are blogging but you aren’t making a habit of commenting on other blogs you are really missing out! There are a lot of reasons that commenting on other blogs benefits you! I won’t go over every single reason here, but I will share three good reasons that it benefits you! Hopefully after reading this you will be eager to get out there and comment on blogs!
First of all it is a GREAT way to build relationships and you really want to build relationships if you desire a successful blog. You want people coming back to your blog time and time again. If you post quality comments on other blogs people will find value in what you have to say and they will be interested in checking out your blog. I have even heard a story of two bloggers becoming best friends through their blogs! Now that is definitely benefit to commenting on other blogs!
Commenting brings exposure to your blog! When you comment on a blog your name field will be a link to your blog, and this is where quality comments come in handy. The other readers of the blogs that you are commenting on will see your comments and see you as someone who offers value and they will be far more likely to want to visit your blog and potentially be a loyal follower!
Also if the blogs that you comment on have the comment luv plug-in it will show the title of your most recent post. That is plug-in that I luv! I often click on other people’s latest blog post from comment luv and I have found some blogs that I love that way! I’m pretty sure that others have done the same with mine. So having a catchy title to your posts is handy for blog exposure too! Though if your comments lack value a catchy title won’t get you too far.
It helps you to grow intellectually! In order to write a thoughtful and valuable comment you need to really think about the original post (because you wouldn’t comment without actually reading the post!) so it can help you to stretch your intellect muscles. It comes a little quicker the more that you practice, as they say practice makes perfect! Especially if you find yourself reading quite a few posts on similar topics you will find that you have more to offer when you comment because you’ll have stored away nuggets of insight from other blogs that you have commented on. You can learn a lot from other blogs and also from reading the other comments that readers leave!
So now that you have three great reasons for commenting on blogs, why not start right now? Leave me a comment!

Hey Stacy,
Way to go! One of the key points to having a blog is to be able to interact with people, and you have to interact with people in order to have them interact with you!
I initially didn’t have a positive attitude toward commenting. I saw it as a chore – “Oh, I gotta spend all that time commenting on other people’s blogs” – and I missed out a lot. As soon as I got over that and started commenting, I’d get reciprocal comments and my blog’s popularity changed almost overnight! Don’t know how, but it DOES get you better search engine rankings.
Plus, I learned heaps by visiting other people’s blogs and reading their posts on a daily basis.

Wayne

Aloha Stacy!
) I have a “What You Said” comment widget on my left sidebar that posts the last 5 comments people made on my blog, but I don’t suppose this is what you mean by comment luv?
I look at making comments as my part of a two-way conversation. The blogger is telling me a bit about their day or project or feelings and my comments are the only way I have to tell them I’m listening. It does benefit both parties. I have learned a lot from visiting other’s blogs. Going thru the blog “reader” of the blogs I’m following a couple times a day is an excellent way to make sure I don’t miss something interesting. (That’s how I found this post and decided to come on over…..I was already a follower and saw the blog’s blurb on my reader.)
When I make comments on a post, I always read thru other’s comments too. It tells me a little about them from what I’m reading…..lots of times I have followed new blogs just from reading their comment.
Thanks for posting about this, Staqy. It really is an important part of the blogging world if a person wants to get the most out of their blogging ventures. Pam @ Sallygoodin
P.S. Just directly underneath this post box is a grey box that says Submit Comment which of course I will click on to submit this comment. However, directly underneath is a checkmark besides an RSS icon and it has a title of one of my recent blog posts. Is this what you’re talking about when you say comment luv? (If so, how do people set one up on their blog? Maybe that could be another post?

Oh Stacy…I just clicked on the heart symbol after my post’s title……it is directing me to ComLuv.com, so I think I just answered my own question. Don’t you just hate that? lol Sorry! Pam

Yes, the comment luv plug-in is from comluv.com!

I agree with you, mostly on the first two points. If you want traffic for your blog, you need to get out there and interact. I am not doing good in that regard simply I don’t have that much time reading blogs. And I will never comment on a blog if I did not read the post.
Cause lame cut and post comments are just lame. It says a lot about the commenter, it says to me: Don’t read my blog cause it will be lame cause I am lame.
As for the intellectual part, I don’t know about that. Cause I usually feel extremely stupid after I left a totally lame stupid comment on a blog. This comment is a perfect example!

Thank you Stacy for posting this article. As bloggers, we really do need to find more ways to engage our readers. Most people check out a post and move on. I am going to follow your advice as well.

Thank you Stacy for posting this information. I am a newborn when it comes to blogging – but am completely obsessed! I really like it when I run across someone who gives out valuable information like this which helps people like me! I am trying hard to grow my blog and in doing so I have found a TON of great blogs out there!
There are so many benefits not just to building my blog but all the information shared with one another – I feel like my IQ (or maybe my common sense) jumped about 10 points higher.
I lood forward to future posts!

Hi Stacy!
I am a newbie blogger (3 months) and I love to write and look for ideas to share on my blog. Secondly, I love to visit other blogs and comment! I actually think it is more of an addiction, lol! Blog hopping!
It gives us a way to meet interesting people that we never would have otherwise, and they are typically people who have some similar interests because we are reading the same blogs.

Blogs are such a great platform for conversation, it is a shame to let that go to waste. I have come to know so many great bloggers through comments. And, you never know where those casual relationships may lead. I have built some great business partnership, as well.

So very true! I’m not really writing to talk to myself
If we don’t engage with others, who is going to engage with us or our blog? Why should they? It’s how my readership grows steadily, by me visiting sites that I enjoy and then telling them so. It won’t happen by itself.

A good reminder about why its important to comment; I’ve found that since I’ve started using a reader, I read more posts, but comment less. Sometimes it just seems hard to find the time, though I know there are always excuses! Anyways, thanks for the reminder!

Hi Amber,
If we make blog commenting fun and think of it as connecting with others it is less of a chore and more of something to look forward to!

This is so true Stacy. Blog commenting really does build relationship and expose you to the world of Blogosphere. It drives your site more traffic and at the same time you’re learning new things.

The great thing with commenting is that there is a transparency in the behavior if each commentator. It is obvious when someone has read a post and actually felt it as well as the opposite.
It’s the ultimate way to connect with other bloggers.
Picked up on your tip here in, never done this trick with leaving the category URL of a specific subject in commentluv plugin.
Thanks

My blog is about anxiety and panic attacks and I have a lot of readers but not too many comments. It doesn’t bother me though, I just keep on blogging.
